The Mid-Career GPS Podcast – Episode 243: Reframe & Reset Your Career With Harsha Boralessa

It was a pleasure to be interviewed by John Neral on Episode 243 of The Mid-Career GPS Podcast. He is a thoughtful host and keen to help mid-career professionals on their journey to finding greater career satisfaction and a job they love.

It’s an interesting experience going from podcast host to guest, it’s not easy to get your point across concisely and make it engaging! John and I had such a fun chat and talked about:

❇ Learning Japanese in evening classes when I started training at EY as a way to differentiate myself. Although there was no immediate benefit at work, I did enjoy learning Japanese and it eventually lead to a secondment in the tax department,

❇ Focusing on the long game, understanding your strengths, achieving mastery in them and trying to find roles which align with your skills,

❇ How taking managed risk and making small experiments such as learning new skills or exploring different areas can help your career,

❇ Careers can appear deceptively linear in hindsight but in reality, they are much more squiggly so don’t worry if you feel uncertain on your journey,

❇ The benefits of curiosity and having a growth mindset,

❇ How limiting beliefs can hold us back and talk us out of pursuing opportunities, and

❇ How being resilient and reframing can help if you’re struggling with your job search. Focus on the positive, look forward and not back.
